Pelican Bay Hotel

The place itself is quite alright, they say it's a 4 star hotel and you pretty much get what you would expect from a 3 star hotel in the U.S. Our renovated room was "quickly and cheaply" renovated but still, it was clean, the bed was comfortable and there was hot water. Anyway, the problem here is the fact that most employees just don't care about you. On arrival, they couldn't find our reservation and we felt like it was our problem. We had a confirmation email so in the end they had to make it right but it was a pretty long process. Also, my wife is celiac, she can't eat gluten. At breakfast when we asked if there were any gluten free options, we were simply told "NO". We weren't asking for anything special, just to confirm if there was gluten in the scrambled eggs for example. Checking with the kitchen or the chef is too hard. So NO. We are here for 2 weeks and no breakfast even if it's supposed to be included. I wouldn't like to know how they would deal with someone in a wheelchair or other disabilities. The pools aren't heated. The advertised ferry service to the beach wasn't in operation. The still advertised day spa facilities had been closed since the last hurricane!? The always open for lunch and dinner restaurant is often closed without explanation. Service is everything and you don't get much at the Pelican Bay.

We enjoyed our stay here overall. The rooms were spacious although the living area furniture could use an update. I didn't realize how much the hurricane from 2019 impacted this area but you could tell, Freeport is working hard to get things back to a robust tourist town. We dined at Port Lucaya which was a short walk from the hotel (probably 3 mins). There were lively bars, music, jewelry stores, ice cream and other fun things to do. We were there during Christmas so some businesses had reduced hours. We were able to use the beach at the resort across the street and didn't have to pay a day fee. Grand Lucayan is only partially opened (due to the 2019 hurricane) but we were able to walk into the property and use the beach for the day.

Charming hotel located on the canal and about a 15 to 20 minute walk to the beach. There are Three Resto bars on the property as well as three separate pools with different views. breakfast was included for us. The environment for breakfast was very nice but it was the exact same food every day and it got really old really fast. On the topic of breakfast, the condensation from the steam would make lakes in the food so the eggs would be drowning in water. Service was excellent but the air conditioners might need maintenance they were so loud.
